VIDEO: The Alyona Show 6-20-12
For the third straight week, The Alyona Show on RT (state-owned Russian Television in America) asked me to come on for the light-hearted Happy Hour segment, in which we poke fun at select news stories.
This week, a bit of a wrinkle happened. Normally, the producer, Patrice (the young lady who “discovered” me) sends me 6 news stories around 1 pm and I look at them and pick the 3-4 I have the best commentary for. Last week and now this week, I’ve enlisted the help of my friend and former roommate in Philly, Mr. Chris Burke, perhaps the only other person that has pretty much has my sense of humor. Last week, for instance, he was responsible for the riff about Groupon paying your medical bills after they name your kid and he gets his ass kicked at school.
This week, I got the news stories later in the day when I was out, so I didn’t get my choices back to them in time, which of course means that 2 of the news stories they picked — game of Thrones Super PAC ads and the piracy rant — I had nothing prepared for and didn’t know they’d be included until they came up on the show. Anything I say about them was completely off the top of my head, which I think you can tell. There was a story about a tennis player being investigated by Scotland Yard, which I had a great bit for that may just wind up in my stand-up act.
